Belize City is the historical center and commercial hub for the country.
As the main entry point, Belize City is the central transportation gateway to offshore cayes and to neighboring districts. Many visitors bypass this area, but if you find yourself having a day to spare, spend the day on a city tour exploring Belize’s colonial architecture or walk across the iconic Swing Bridge in the city center and spot local fishing boats parked at the mouth of Hauloever Creek, making for a colorful scene. Not too far outside the city you can take a river boat tour to explore Belize’s wildlife, or visit Altun Ha, an ancient Maya Site, not too far away.
